OptiGrid, an Australian battery optimisation and trading intelligence platform built for the National Electricity Market, has appointed Paul Vickers as Head of Operations.

Vickers brings more than two decades of experience in operations and program management across the retail, technology and energy sectors. In his new role, he will oversee the delivery and performance of OptiGrid’s platform, with a focus on meeting customers’ operational, commercial and cybersecurity requirements.

“The energy market is evolving rapidly and businesses need software solutions that are tailored to their operational and commercial goals. I look forward to working with the OptiGrid team to help our customers maximise the value of their battery assets,” Vickers said.

Prior to joining OptiGrid, Vickers was Senior Project Manager at Power and Water Corporation, where he led the delivery of the Territory Dispatch Engine, a critical infrastructure program valued at more than $40 million.

The program involved developing an automated security-constrained unit commitment and economic dispatch optimisation platform for the Northern Territory’s power system, supporting greater renewable energy penetration.

Vickers previously spent more than six years as Operations and Commercial Manager at HARD software, an energy technology and services provider specialising in trading and dispatch systems for solar, wind and energy storage assets in the NEM.

During his time at HARD software, Vickers was involved in product development, technical design and architecture, cybersecurity, regulatory compliance and customer experience. His broader career includes senior leadership roles with Woolworths Group, TechnologyOne and APA Group.

“We would like to welcome Paul to the OptiGrid family. Paul brings a combination of operational leadership, experience in the energy markets and supporting customers on their technology platform execution to deliver on our strategic plans to grow and expand. We are delighted to welcome him to the team,” OptiGrid CEO Sahand Karimi said.

OptiGrid manages a portfolio of hybrid and standalone battery energy storage system projects. Based in South Australia, the company’s shareholders include the Clean Energy Finance Corporation, IP Group, Hostplus, UNSW, Adelaide University and EnergyLab.
